The Durham Farmers’ County Co-op started on July 28, 1947 by a group of rural people to provide a consistent supply of products and services at a competitive price. From an agricultural base, Durham Farmers’ has expanded to be a major supplier of consumer goods and services. A co-operative is controlled by the people it services. Its profits are reinvested into the co-operative or community directly benefiting its members.

It is the mission of the Co-op to purchase, sell, and generally deal in feed, seed, fertilizer, consumer goods and supplies. The board of directors, management , and staff serve its membership and community in the co-operative spirit, as stated in the letter of incorporation dated July 28, 1947. Our stores are staffed by experienced people, dedicated to serving our members.

Benefits of Membership

Share the profits

A co-operative is controlled by the people it services. Its profits are re-invested into the co-operative or community directly benefiting its members.

Vote

In keeping with the co-operative philosophy, each members has a single vote. Members elect a Board of Directors to lead the co-operative and give its management direction.

Participate

People make a co-operative. Members can participate in their co-operative, serve on its Board of Directors, attend annual meetings and freely offer suggestions to its directors and management.

Choice and Market Control

Co-operatives were born because people wanted opportunity and fairness. Without a co-operative choice, farmers had very little say in the price they paid for their inputs and received on their produce. Cooperative introduced choice to the market, as well as control to their members.

In addition to the daily benefits of a co-operative in your community, Durham Farmers’ County Coop holds appreciation events where members are able to take advantage of products and services at special values.
